All About Hulhumale

Located 8km off the North-East Coast of Malé, Hulhumalé (or “City of Hope” as some people call it) is an artificial island located in the Maldives. It is situated just a short distance from the capital city of Malé, and its development was the result of addressing the growing population and land scarcity issues in the Maldives. Hulhumalé was reclaimed from the sea, which means that it was originally submerged and then built up using land reclamation techniques such as piling the area with large amounts of heavy rock and cement, and then adding on with clay and dirt until the desired height was reached. The island’s creation began on the 16th of October in 1997, and it has since been developed into a thriving urban area upon its completion in June 2002. Well-connected to Malé and the Velana International Airport – the main international airport in the Maldives –  you can easily get to Hulhumalé from Malé using ferry and speedboat services, making it easily accessible for both residents and visitors alike.

A domestic flight is required to travel between Hulhumale and Fuvahmulah. The Shark Maniacs Dive Package and all our other dive packages will include 2-way domestic flight tickets between Hulhumale and Fuvahmulah.

Is Hulhumale and Male the same island?

Hulhumale and Male is not the same island. Hulhumale is next to Male City which can be reached by taxi or ferry. Hulhumale is also where Velana International Airport is located.

How can I book the Shark Maniacs Dive Package?

You can book the Shark Maniacs Dive Package by emailing us at [email protected]. You will just need to book your international flight tickets and our team will handle and manage the rest of your experience in Fuvahmulah and Hulhumale.

What is the recommended length of stay for the Shark Maniacs Dive Package?

We recommend a minimum of 7 nights for the duration of the Shark Maniacs Dive Package. This is for 4 nights in Fuvahmulah and 3 nights in Hulhumale. We are able to also customize number of days for the Shark Maniacs Dive Package.

What is the minimum dive certification to book the Shark Maniacs Dive Package?

We recommend divers to be Advanced Open Water certified, that way divers are able to dive to the maximum of 30 metres, as per Maldives dive regulation, to be able to best experience the diving in Fuvahmulah and Hulhumale.
